Before examining how to best implement a BYOD strategy, Logicalis says it’s critical to understand just how pervasive BYOD has become. Experts1 report that 78 percent of U.S. white-collar employees use a mobile device for work purposes, while 60 percent of all enterprise knowledge workers use a mobile device as their primary computing device. Smartphone adoption is growing at more than 50 percent annually; 1.2 billion smartphones will enter the market over the next five years. And in 2013, more than 50 percent of network devices are expected to ship without a wired port. As a result of the rapidly growing and changing BYOD landscape, the most significant challenge for CIOs and their IT departments is in balancing the needs of the business with what users have come to expect from the mobile experience.
“With this kind of widespread acceptance of BYOD in the corporate environment, just having a wireless network in place does not guarantee that the experience the user has will be optimal,” says Mike Johnson, director of Communication and Collaboration Architectures, Logicalis US.
