Solution Provider Invites CIOs, IT Pros to Attend “Best Practices” BYOD Webinar & Online Roundtable,Offers Attendees Free Copy of Gartner’s “Implementing a BYOD Program” Report
Farmington Hills, MI, April 9, 2013 – BYOD or “bring your own device” is not simply about taking a laptop or tablet into meetings and having access to email, business applications and data. It’s about delivering a mobility experience that exceeds user expectations, allowing them to do their jobs optimally whenever and wherever they are at the time. But for CIOs, BYOD can spell a nightmare in terms of the network, security and support requirements it demands. As a result, Logicalis US, an international IT solutions and managed services provider (http://www.us.logicalis.com/), has outlined IT pros’ top concerns and identified “best practices” for fulfilling BYOD requirements via its “Logicalis Enterprise Mobility Experience Framework.” Logicalis US is also announcing a live webinar, planned for May 2, 2013, called “Top 5 Considerations for BYOD,” to help CIOs better understand how to deliver on the promise of a truly mobile environment.
Before examining how to best implement a BYOD strategy, Logicalis says it’s critical to understand just how pervasive BYOD has become. Experts1 report that 78 percent of U.S. white-collar employees use a mobile device for work purposes, while 60 percent of all enterprise knowledge workers use a mobile device as their primary computing device. Smartphone adoption is growing at more than 50 percent annually; 1.2 billion smartphones will enter the market over the next five years. And in 2013, more than 50 percent of network devices are expected to ship without a wired port. As a result of the rapidly growing and changing BYOD landscape, the most significant challenge for CIOs and their IT departments is in balancing the needs of the business with what users have come to expect from the mobile experience.
“With this kind of widespread acceptance of BYOD in the corporate environment, just having a wireless network in place does not guarantee that the experience the user has will be optimal,” says Mike Johnson, director of Communication and Collaboration Architectures, Logicalis US.
BYOD Concerns: What’s Worrying IT Pros Most?
- Providing both a choice of devices and support for each device.
- Maintaining secure access across the corporate network.
- The time it takes to bring new devices on board.
- The creation and enforcement of company usage policies.
- Data protection and loss prevention management.
- Wireless LAN performance and reliability.
- Their ability to revoke access.
- Access to the tools needed to gain visibility into and control over devices on the network.
- Feeling overwhelmed with trying to manage the increase in connected devices.
“Our IT customers have outlined widespread concerns,” Logicalis’ Johnson says. “They need help preparing their network to support the additional bandwidth requirements of employee-owned mobile devices; they need help reviewing their IT security policies and developing a network access strategy that keeps their valuable enterprise data safe; and they need help implementing a mobile device management (MDM) strategy that can provide complete provisioning, configuration, monitoring and reporting for connecting BYOD mobile devices. Delivering on the promise of mobility at a level that meets their enterprise users’ expectations can be done. The key is to combine industry best practices with common sense strategies.”
